Dan McCleary: New Paintings and Prints

Carl Berg Gallery is pleased to present new paintings and new prints by Dan McCleary in his third solo show at the gallery. His new body of work will include three larger paintings and a series on monotypes portraits. He will also be featuring a pair of etchings that he recently produced in Mexico.

McCleary’s paintings depict subjects of people caught in their everyday normal routine. His figures although physically present are seemingly lost in their own psychological world. These individuals are depicted in moments of internal isolation even though they are in the presence of others.

McCleary has a strong tradition in printmaking and will include a series of monotypes and etchings in the exhibition. His monotypes are portraits that he has been working on over the last year. These works are quicker renditions than his paintings offering more immediacy to the subject. McCleary has been making etchings in Mexico at Carpe Diem Press over the last number of years and for this newest series he will be presenting a pair of etchings depicting flowers.

In a world that often overrates novelty, Dan McCleary’s focus on mastering his subject over time has allowed him to portray the nuances of the human condition.
