Jared Pankin: Natural, Natural History, Too

Natural, Natural History, Too

In his gallery debut, Jared Pankin will be exhibiting seven new sculptures that take his previous blurring of the lines between nature and artifice to new levels of ambition. These large-scale works echo the topography and fauna of the Southwest and our native mountains. Using two by fours that have been chopped and hacked, he builds up the forms of the sculpture so that both formal sculptural issues co-exist with a sense of landscape and natural forms. In these pieces what is natural and what is man made is blurred, redefined, torn down and reconfigured in sculptures of enormous power and subtle humor.
