Drawings and Objects

Kathryn Spence’s new exhibition will focus on the relationships between drawings and the objects that inspire them. Spence’s delicate drawings isolate images that have been central to her sculptural practice such as birds, thread piles, and small objects made from fabrics and other distressed materials. In a number of the works the object that serves as the basis for the drawing is re-integrated into the work, allowing the object to function in both an illusionary and physical capacity simultaneously. This integration breaks down the normal boundaries between sculpture and drawing to produce physically and conceptually rich hybrids.
