Donnie Molls: Abandoned Dreams
Abandoned Dreams
In his debut exhibition with the gallery Donnie Molls will present paintings that explore the decline of the American dream as embodied by decayed and abandoned buildings in remote desert locations. These oil and mixed media paintings, based on photographs that Molls has taken, create a sense of isolation and lost optimism.
Beginning by exposing a photo negative onto a panel that has been coated with an emulsion, he paints out all the contextualizing elements of his run-down architecture with colors and hues that are anything but natural, in the process creating a dream like image existing in an amorphous space. The colors bring an added emotional depth that augments our natural sense of nostalgia brought on by memories of a west that is both in decay and transition.
This exhibition will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalog.
