Vectors Within the Wounded Planes

Iva Gueorguieva’s west coast debut will feature large-scale acrylic paintings that skirt the abstract and the realist in equal measure. The large swirling forms convey as sense of agitation, energy, and foreboding, while the small-scale drawing elements move across the surface, highlighting and illuminating as they curl and jolt across the open areas of the painting.

The paintings begin as large washes of color, areas that will eventually linger deep in the recesses of the painting. Gradually the paintings move toward specificity stopping just short of clarity with everything suspended at the point of becoming. Equal parts painting and drawing, the canvases draw you into their depths where the micro world of drawing and detail comes to the fore.
