JonMarc Edwards returns for his second exhibition at Carl Berg Gallery with a new group of large-scale mixed media paintings. Edwards’ new paintings follow in the path of his text-based work that he has been exploring for over a decade. These new paintings however have taken an unexpected turn and have become more abstracted in the process. His cryptic use of letters, layered on top one another forming words, phrases, poems, has been a mainstay of his artistic expression. In these new works however, Edwards though still using letters has made them virtually illegible by layering many on top of one another. In this decisive departure from his previous work, the artist has mass-produced, collaged and layered the “Characters” to treat language and information as a legible ‘physical’ property.

Edwards will also be exhibiting a collaborative ‘event’ sculpture with German artist Ewerdt Hilgemann. The sculpture, a 60cm stainless steel cube with six identical sand blasted images, will be on view the week before the exhibition and during the opening. On Sunday, March 19th, at @ 4:00 pm at the Carl Berg Gallery the sculpture will then be dramatically imploded by Ewerdt Hilgemann and JonMarc Edwards.

A catalog featuring reproductions of preparatory studies and smaller peripheral paintings will accompany the exhibition.

JonMarc Edwards has exhibited at Deborah Colton Gallery, Houston, Westwood Gallery, New York, Apex Art, New York, and will be exhibiting in May 2006 at Art Affairs Gallerie, Amsterdam, NDL.
