A Day at the Office

In her first solo show at the Carl Berg Gallery Alison Foshee will feature new collage-paintings that push into new direction for the artist. Foshee has become recognized for her use of office products in her work using such diverse materials as office labels, map pins and staples.

In the new body of work Foshee blends her use of store bought materials with more traditional media. These new works on canvas have monochromatic painted backgrounds that are collaged with offices labels in various sizes and shapes creating compelling landscapes that are detailed yet atmospheric.

Foshee while maintaining the high low dichotomy creates artworks that capture the interest of the viewer through a multi-layered experience that changes as the viewer physically approaches the work. The optical qualities of the monochromatic field interact with the collaged labels, that form the elements within the landscape, creating an illusion space. These floating element appear mirage-like from a distance but as the viewer approaches the paintings the initially hidden truths of the technique are revealed.
