Kathryn Spence: Solo Exhibition
Solo Exhibition
San Francisco based artist Kathryn Spence will make her Los Angeles debut with a show of sculptural objects, and, for the first time in her career, drawings. Spence, who became well known for stuffed animals coated in mud, has expanded the range of materials and objects to include hand sewn paper towels, coins and buttons made from scotch tape and cardboard, thread accumulated in piles, and large mud objects stuffed with clothes, blankets, and lint. She will also show drawings focusing on birds and the natural world, with an emphasis on nature¹s small overlooked aspects. All of Spence¹s labor-intensive sculptures honor the overlooked, the abject, and the incidental in ways that enhance their possibilities.
