Carl Berg Gallery is pleased to present Constant Speed, new paintings by Nathan Redwood, his highly anticipated second solo exhibition in Los Angeles.

In this new body of work, Redwood develops an acute sense of gesture and illusion with a brighter and more specific palette. Redwood’s broader use of painterly abstraction allows him to expand his depictions into more complex environments letting the audience experience an impossible, yet familiar, world. The immediacy of Redwood’s act of painting is still highly present as is the complexity of the figures and structures that inhabit his works. Redwood fuses the present, the past, and the future in a timeless single moment.

In Constant Speed we are confronted with imaginary moments that are captured by Redwood’s bold yet subtle use of acrylic polymers. The flattening and extension of space further enhances their richness and illusion while the ‘act’ that we are experiencing helps demonstrate Redwood’s uniqueness to contemporary painting. His technique remains an intense idiosyncrasy that defines his assertive painterly language.

Redwood’s first solo exhibition at Carl Berg Gallery was received with rave reviews and since that show he has had several successful exhibitions including solo shows at the Carl Berg Projects in Amsterdam, Electricworks in San Francisco, and Gallery 40,000 in Chicago. Redwood completed a 3-month residency at the Kaus Australis Residency in Rotterdam in 2007 and will have his first solo exhibition in New York at Caren Golden Fine Art in the fall of 2008.
